Origin: lauded for its ephemeral beauty for centuries, cherry blossom is the symbolic flower of Japan. Hanami, the moment when the sakura flower blooms, is the most popular season in this country. In Japan, cherry blossom symbolises the clouds. This is due to the fact that the flowers blossom in abundance, creating fluffy clouds on the trees. The very lengthy blossoming is followed by a beautiful flower that unfortunately dies soon after, representing the ephemeral nature of life. This is why cherry blossom is the symbol of mortality in Japan and is often used in artistic representations.
